B-Reel Films sign director Natasha Khan

Natasha Khan is a director, singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist, to date best known for her musical incarnation Bat for Lashes, one of the most unique British songwriters of the last decade.
A music and visual arts student at the University of Brighton, Khan started as a painter, experimenting with sound installations, animations and performances before creating Bat For Lashes.
Khan has since been carving out a name for herself as a visionary director with a distinctive & considered aesthetic inspired by auteurs and artists such as Ingmar Bergman and Robert Mapplethorpe. Khan’s short film ‘I Do’ premiered in 2016 at Tribeca Film Festival, as part of the International Narrative Competition. Khan wrote and directed ‘I Do’, which forms part of the feature film ‘MADLY’, a collection of six 15-minute contemporary love stories with a global list of directors including Gael Garcia Bernal, Mia Wasikowska and Anurag Kashyap.
Khan already has a rich catalogue of directorial work including the video for the song ‘Garden’s Heart’, a track she co-wrote with Jon Hopkins for the soundtrack of Kevin Macdonald’s 2013 feature film “How I Live Now”.

This announcement coincides with the reveal of a new brand identity for Global Production company B-Reel Films (BRF), which was founded almost 2 decades ago, and the new website www.brf.co. The rebrand signifies BRF’s evolution as it continues to explore new ways of storytelling across traditional and emerging formats.
Natasha Khan joins a roster of directors carefully curated for BRF London by MD Margo Mars. Mars commented: “I’m thrilled that Natasha Khan has joined the growing roster of BRF London. Natasha has a unique directorial style which encompasses her visual and musical knowledge, and is another strong female vision to reinforce our roster of storytellers which already includes innovative women directors Alma Har’el, Leonora Lonsdale, Maisie Cousins and Martina-Hoogland Ivanow.”

Natasha Khan commented: “I am very much looking forward to working with B-Reel Films in 2017, and am excited to be directing commercials and short form branded content. I consider collaboration a huge part of my work, and look forward to opening up that dialogue further with creative teams. I am thrilled to explore new ways of working whilst also bringing my own unique multi- dimensional perspective to life on the screen.”
Bat for Lashes entered the musical lexicon back in 2006 with her album ‘Fur and Gold’, which was nominated for the Mercury Music Award. Khan’s 2009 album ‘Two Suns’ won an Ivor Novello Award for ‘Best Contemporary Song’, and ‘The Haunted Man’ in 2012 was also critically acclaimed and earned her Brit Award and Ivor Novello nominations.
Her 2016 album ‘The Bride’ earned Khan her 3rd Mercury Music Prize nomination, and was written as the soundtrack to a feature film, currently in the process of being realized.
