Philosophie Union Square has historically been one of the leading tourist destinations in New York City, and also a favorite of New Yorkers of all ages. The realignment of the their website (unionsquarenyc.org) was designed and developed by Verkuhl from the ground up using Drupal and has yielded tremendous results since its launch in late summer 2010. The website is clear, concise and inviting with an innovative “Today in the Square” events calendar, and useful features including Biz Buzz and Square Happenings. Newsletter and email sign ups have increased over 220% and retailers and merchants are ecstatic with the electronic coupon redemption rates.New branding, a new open source website, low cost of administration for its staff, a new host and key functionality like an Events calendar were all part of the request. Now, multiple staff members can make edits and post or review new content — without the inefficiencies and poor reliability of their previous Adobe ColdFusion/Contribute workflow — all from the web-based WYSIWYG interface of Drupal. Due to the success of the website realignment, USP continues to attract top retailers, restaurants and other businesses it needs to remain vibrant and energetic in the eyes of the constituencies it serves.
